Initial situation: Mardin in southeastern Turkey is known for the Artuqid (Artıklı or Artuklu in Turkish) architecture of its old city. And, for its strategic location on a rocky hill near the Tigris River that rises steeply over the flat plains. The origins of the city of Mardin reach back to the 5th millennium BC. The ancient Mardin Castle rises 1200 meters above sea level and 600 meters above ground. There have been several rockfall incidents not only from the rocky hills at the base of the castle but also from the old walls of the castle.
Description: In the course of restoration works on the ancient castle, six lines of GBE-3000A (Spider®) barriers with a total length of 360 meters and one line of RXE-5000 (ringnet) with a length of 40 meters protect the unique architecture of Mardin and its monuments. The designers chose them for their reliability and easy maintenance.
